New Ministry to be created

The government has announced it is proposing to create a new Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment to drive economic growth.

The new Ministry will bring together the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Department of Labour, and the Department of Building and Housing.

The Ministry of Economic Development will act as the foundation of the new Ministry, which we expect to be established by 1 July 2012.

In the meantime, business will continue as usual.

The Ministry of Economic Development website will be updated with more information as it becomes available.

Charitable status of sport and recreation organisations

In December 2010 SPARC, the Department of Internal Affairs, Inland Revenue, the Companies Office and the Charities Commission jointly produced an information sheet to help sport and recreation organisations who are considering applying to register as a charity.

Incorporated societies - sample rules updated

Rule 20 has been reworded to give Societies the option of having "Reviews" rather than "Audits" because

of the misconception that auditors will uncover ANY irregularity in the course of their work, and that
reviews may be more appropriate for smaller Societies and much less expensive than audits.
